NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH ALERT!!!
Issued February 4, 2009
Nearby subdivisions have reported that an older man in a blue BMW
convertible stopped a group of kids sledding in Orchid Grove and told
them about a puppy he had in his car and had wanted to show the
children. An alert neighbor phoned the Sheriff’s department which
reportedly stopped and questioned the man.
Please remind your children during these snow days off from school to
always be alert and to report any suspicious behavior to an adult who
can then notify the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
Thanks for posting this Pam. I have been so rapped up in school, I haven't been on much. I live in Orchid Grove and I'm the Neighborhood Watch Captain. We got the word out to all of our neighbors within 10 minutes. It is a wonderful program. The guy drives a 2000 Z3 dark blue bottom w/a tan top. He lives in Lenoir City and after he left our neighborhood, he went right to Bob Leonard Park to watch kids. Sick. Keep a sharp eye. He is not a registered sex offender-not on the TBI list.
Just to let everyone know, the guy who was talking to kids in our neighborhood was there again today WAITING FOR THE BUSES. Please send this out on your neighborhood networks-too creepy!
For those who are car illiterate -- this is a blue convertible sports car. I have heard mixed reports if he is indeed on the sex offender registry -- but be careful. Tell everyone you know.
He is not on the sex offender registry and we don't want him to be. I spoke with Knox County Sheriff's Dept. last night. They have "banned" him from our neighborhood and ALL Knox County Parks. If you see him at any park, you should call 911. He will be arrested on sight.
I received this email from someone else as well. It reminds us to be careful when we post about making an allegation. As you see in the above post we did not make an allegation.
I just spoke to Officer Wallace with the Knox County Sheriff's
Department. He spoke to the individual in question earlier today and
confirmed a detective is going to follow up the matter. Officer Wallace
stated the following:
-this person is NOT a registered sex offender and has no
criminal history related
to this topic
-this person lives somewhat nearby and he says he is a
regular visitor to the Watt
Road park to walk his dog, this person does drive a
convertible BMW
-no charges have been filed. This person has voluntarily
spoken with the KCSO and
is "very unhappy to learn his license plate number and name
are being passed long
on the internet"
-the KCSO is continuing to monitor the situation but takes
this opportunity to
remind parents to always encourage their kids to report
suspicious activity but at
the same time avoid passing along unproven/unfounded
allegations about any person
Officer Wallace also stated that we have to be careful on what is shared
(such as passing on unproven allegations and using a person's name and
linking him to unsavory topics like child molestation/sexual
predator/etc.) as this could result in legal liability for those who are
passing along this information.
Officer Wallace says the detective will be in touch with the original
person who called the KCSO about the individual in question and provide
this person with an update upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Why would they ban him if he is NOT on the list? Why would he be arrested if he hasn't done anything? Also why would we receive notifications from schools if he is not guilty of something? There seems to be alot of questions about this that aren't being answered.

Seems there is some mis-information going around. I am not sure whos info is wrong but I spoke with a KCSO deputy tonight who informed me that they are well aware of the situation and that they are watching it. Seems like at least 1 KCSO deputy thinks there is something worth watching out for. Sorry, no allegations here.
I received this from one of the neighborhood newsletters.
HERE IS THE BOTTOM LINE -- No matter what you have heard, the man in question is not guilty of any crime.
If you see this individual, do not call the sheriff's dept., unless you see him actually committing a crime. I have personally spoken with the officer in charge. The man is NOT banned from all parks (he was initially banned for one day until they could investigate further). He lives in the area, has been interviewed, does have a dog and visits the parks frequently. He does have some medical issues. He has been made very aware of what people are thinking and was very upset, threatened to sue the media, those passing along his name (which I didn't have), taking his picture, etc. His medical issues may cause him to not be thinking exactly as we might (hence his returning to parks even though people were calling the cops on him each time).... the officer I spoke to says they made it very clear why people were upset with him. All his behavior seemed to have been sufficiently explained to the officer (although poor judgment, he committed no crime).
As usual, information of this type spreads like wildfire in our community. Even schools in the Farragut area were informed. Always remain diligent and vigilant in these situations.
I haven't anything about the guy at bus stops in a while. Does anybody have an update? Last I heard he was still showing up at bus stops. Anybody have new info????
Don't know if he ever really was 'showing up at bus stops'...... things got kind of blown out of proportion it would seem. I personally talked to the detective and he said the guy understood how he looked and things have been pretty quiet recently, from what I've heard.
